Yokosuka Naval Base Project in Japan

The U.S. Naval Command in Japan is located at this base. As the base of the US Seventh Fleet, it used to be the de facto homeport of the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 and other cruisers and destroyers equipped with the Aegis combat system. In addition, the base also has living facilities such as soldier dormitories, hospitals, cinemas, officers' clubs, and US military supermarkets.。

As the only port outside the United States that has the function of an aircraft carrier homeport, the Yokosuka Naval Facility has excellent personnel and facilities and is a very important base for the U.S. military. If it cannot be used here, the U.S. military must spend half a month to a month moving to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii or even the continental United States before it can be repaired。

Since 2008, the U.S. Navy has replaced the traditionally powered USS Kitty Hawk with the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN-73) for local defense. Concerns about the safety of the nuclear reactors it carried have also aroused many local discussions.

On January 14, 2014, the U.S. Navy announced that the USS Ronald Reagan would replace the USS George Washington, which returned to the United States for mid-term overhaul and replacement of nuclear fuel on October 1, 2015, and was stationed at Yokosuka, Japan.
